Tnooz Hack-a-Thon Leverages Sphere SDK

Dan Smigrod

Innovative travel tech often occurs at the intersection of impossible deadlines and unbridled creativity. Just ask our team.

So when Tnooz Editor and Co-founder Kevin May invited us to support developers with our SDK at the Tnooz THack in San Francisco, we immediately said yes.

“THack is Tnooz’s unique event which brings together travel industry APIs and the development community to brainstorm and create new digital travel products and web or mobile-based tools,” writes May in a Tnooz THack article. “Developers from across travel, tourism and hospitality industry are welcome to attend, as well as engineers and technicians…”

For the 10-day hack-a-thon that kicks off Tuesday, September 10th, Sphere will provide the software development kit that makes it possible to include spherical photography in travel apps and websites. The results will be demoed at the THack Showcase on Thursday, September 19th at the HotelTonight offices in San Francisco.

Sphere is offering a sweetener to encourage THack developers to innovate using our Sphere SDK; we will waive all licensing fees — including support and maintenance through December 31, 2014 — for any hack created with our SDK during the 10–day competition.

We’re excited to see how these passionate developers will combine our API with others' to bring travelers inside some of our 100,000 existing spheres. Other travel brands supplying APIs include:

  • Bynd
  • FlightStats
  • Gogobot
  • Nor1
  • Sabre Travel Network
  • Sphere
  • Travelport
  • Viator
  • Wcities
  • Worldmate

At the Tnooz THack in Sydney earlier this year, the first place winner, Flight Centre, used the Sphere (formerly called TourWrist) SDK. To attend THack, register here.

Sphere has licensed its SDK to more than 50 brands including Samsung, HomeAway, Royal Caribbean, Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Viator.
